Vet and Bodywork Records

This part of the app allows you to keep a record of veterinary and bodywork (physio, chiro, etc) history for each horse.

You can restrict which users can edit or see this information under the Stables->Users screen.

When there is a Vet or Physio issue with a horse, there may typically be an initial observation of symptoms followed by a visit, then follow up tests, treatment and further follow up visits.

That sequence is reflected in the way you record information in the app. You open a new 'Record', then post a series of 'Notes' as the issue progresses.

To Add a Record

Tap the '+' icon at the top right of the Vet Records or Physio Records page. Then:

  • Select the date the issue started or the date the vet/physio started investigating.
  • Enter a short phrase which describes the issue. You can change this over time as the issue is diagnosed, e.g. 'Unsound front' may change to 'Laminitis'.
  • Enter the first note, which may perhaps be the initial symptoms, or the results of a physio or vet visit.

To Add a Note

Tap on the record you want to update.

  • Tap the '+' icon at the top right of the notes page.
  • Enter your note and optionally the practitioner's name who attended or contacted you.
  • Tap 'Save'.

Each note added will be tagged with the date and the person who added it.

To Add an Attachment to a Note

An Attachment can be an image or a PDF file.

  • Touch and hold the note.
  • Select 'Add Attachment'
  • Follow the instructions on that page.

NB The file is uploaded to cloud storage so that you can access it on other devices, or others (who have permission) can also access it. Depending on your Internet connection that may take a little time.

Automatic summaries

If you enter a thread of notes under a record, an algorithm will be triggered to extract key topics, people and places. This will be displayed at the top of the record as a handy summary to prevent you having to scroll through all the notes when you are trying to find an issue. The algorithm runs each time you save or delete a note.

Here are some examples of how you might use Vet and Physio Records

A lame horse…
  • add a new record: tags - lameness, right fore
  • add first note: Vet visited. Started blocking to find source. Lameness stopped when blocking suspensory ligament.
  • add new note: Vet came back to x-ray. Revealed no apparent issues. Recommended one week's rest and 3 x shock wave treatments on suspensory ligaments.
  • add new note: Re-assessed after 4 weeks. Horse sound.

The summary of the issue will change automatically as the history is accumulated.

A persistent cough…
  • add a new record: nasal discharge, cough.
  • add first note: Add attachment of photo of discharge for vet.
  • add a new note: Vet came and took a swab.
  • add a new note: Result of swab, no sign of infection.
  • add an attachment to the note: Pathology lab results (pdf mailed by vet).
  • add a new note: Vet recommended soaking hay. Started today.
  • add a new note: Discharge and cough have disappeared.
A sensitive back…
  • add a new record: soreness, saddle area
  • add an attachment to the note: Physio report with exercise recommendations.
  • add a new note: After a week of exercises, issue resolved.
