Visits

You can add a visit here if the stable manager has given you permission to do so. Adding visits, has two purposes: to update the horse records for a batch of horses and to provide a visit reminder.

A practical scenario

We have modelled this feature based on the following scenario:

1) A visit is booked for a farrier or other professional and a provisional list of horses to see is prepared and saved.

2) The professional arrives, but the actual list varies, e.g. due to horses being away competing, being brought back into work at short notice or they are on box rest.

3) Once the professional is finished, we update the horses he/she actually saw and the final list is applied to each individual horse's records.

We have mirrored this in the app. The list of horses can be edited right up until after the visit. The final stage is "Review and Update Horse Records". When that is done the actual horse records are updated.

Farrier and dentist appointments

You can allocate horses to appointments for Farriers and Dentists. The system will then automatically create a visit record for each horse you have selected. That allows you to develop a visit history for each horse and the system can (optionally) remind you when, for example, a farrier visit is due for a particular horse.

The way you do this is:-

  • Add an appointment by clicking on '+' in the navigation bar;
  • Select a date and time, then tap on 'Select Horses'
  • You can optionally add the name of the person visiting or their practice.
  • Save the Visit
  • Once the visit has happened, you will see an option to 'Review and Update Horse Records'.
  • You can then check the list of horses seen or treated on that appointment.
  • When you are happy with that, tap 'Save' and the a record for the visit will be created for each horse.

NB Once the records have been created for each horse, you cannot edit the date of the farrier or dentist visit on this screen. You can only edit it via the home screen of each horse. **

Once the batch of records has been saved, you can enter a more tailored horse note, by going to the Home Screen for a particular horse, and editing the record.

If you just want to add a visit for that horse only, you can also do that via that screen.

Vet and Physio Reminders

You can allocate horses to appointments for Vets and Physios in the same way as for farriers and dentists. The difference is that once the appointment has taken place, you are presented with the option to manually create a Vet or Physio record or if the issue is ongoing, to select the issue thread then add additional notes and the date of the treatment or follow up.

The reason for that difference is that vet and physio treatments are generally not shared by multiple horses. They are specific to the horse and its symptoms or condition. It does not therefore make sense to update a 'batch' of horses.

There are exceptions, as if for example a vet has come to administer a flu jab to one or more horses, those flu records can be saved as a 'batch' via the Flu option on a horse's home screen. (You will be offered the option to add other horses who received the same jab on that date).

If you just want to add a visit and vet/physio record for a particular horse only, you can also do it via the vet or physio option on the horse's home screen.

Appointment Reminder

The diary and home screen will provide a reminder of when the appointment is due.

To change the number of days warning, tap on Stables->Preferences from the home screen.

** (An analogy to explain this is if you write a visit in your diary with a list of horses, then enter them into your main horse record once the visit has happened, updating the visit entry in your diary, does not update what you have already written into your horse's record).
